[h5]Welcome[/h5]

Hello, I’m Joe Starr and thank you for finding my supporting materials here on this page. I hope that the videos and audio extracts below will demonstrate my skills relevant to work as a Music Director.

As I am currently studying for an MA in Music Directing for Musical Theatre here at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland I have spent this year focussing on scoring, conducting, producing tracks, vocal coaching and performing. I am currently in rehearsals for the MA summer production – Pippin – which I am really excited to be Music Directing.

Professionally, my career so far lies mostly in the cruise industry. Between 2011-2018 I worked as a musician, Band Leader and Music Director for various major cruise lines. I returned home to Gloucestershire towards the end of 2018 and began gigging and working as a piano teacher as well as directing music for Am/Dram productions.

I soon started working with the Barn Theatre in Cirencester as the resident Music Director for their Performing Arts Academy (kids aged 7-17) where I would lead singing and music workshops as well as directing the music for their production shows. Until the pandemic I really enjoyed working at the theatre, and in addition to working with young performers my time at The Barn allowed me to undertake other community music projects such as running a choir and leading various outreach music/singing projects.

I’ve built up loads of experience as a musician, composer, arranger, music director and backing track producer, and as I approach the end of my course here at the RCS I am starting to look for professional Music Directing opportunities.

Below you’ll find some materials to support my application, and I’d like to thank you again for taking the time to review this page.
